DOEP.
Hello!
The Drug Outreach & Education Program (endearingly acronymed DOEP) is a student service organization at the University of California, Los Angeles. It was founded in 2012 by former UCLA undergraduates Zack Naqvi, Shakthi Sureddi, Wilson Liang, Eric Kwo, and Bill Davis.
The purpose of the Drug Outreach & Education Program is to inform community members such as fellow students, children, and the greater LA population about the ways drugs and medicines affect our bodies and minds. The program focuses on the histories of different drugs, their past and current usage, and their physiological and psychological affects on the body and mind while trying to maintain as much of a neutral perspective as possible. The purpose of the program is NOT to encourage or discourage drug usage or experimentation but rather to educate people about them.
The main way we accomplish our goal is by giving self-prepared presentations to audiences about various drugs. Our presentations are meant to be as unbiased as possible;. Our hope is to simply offer the knowledge of the effects of drugs on the body. However, if need be, we are willing to cater our presentations to fit the needs of the audience.
In the past, we have presented at schools, shelters, the UCLA campus, other LA community centers, and have collaborated with other community service projects that share common health and educational goals for the public. We have presented on a variety of drugs and discuss topics requested by the teachers and community service directors of the sites we visit.
If you are interested in potentially scheduling a drug information session at your venue or would like to collaborate, please feel free to contract doepatucla@gmail.com for a request!
